ITV viewers call on bosses to ‘bring back’ nostalgic drama that last aired 16 years ago – that REJECTED Ed Sheeran
ITV viewers have begged the channel to bring back a drama series which last aired sixteen years ago.
On social media, TV fans have begged for ITV to consider a comeback for a drama series focused on a drama school in London that saw stars like Ed Sheeran and Pixie Lott audition.
Ed Sheeran auditioned for Britannia High, aged 16[/caption]Britannia High ran for just one series on ITV when it premiered in October 2008.
The series focused on the lives of a group of teenagers and their mentors at a fictional London theatre school.
Auditions to get parts in the TV show were also filmed, with former Strictly judge Arlene Phillips and theatre guru David Ian brought in to cast the main stars.
The series saw young hopefuls showing their singing, dancing and acting skills in their attempt to feature in the show, and that included a 16-year-old Ed Sheeran.
In auditions, Ed wowed with his singing and guitar performance, but his dancing didn’t go down well with Arlene.
Despite stomping and struggling to dance, Ed made it through the first round of auditions but was later let go before the main cast was announced.
It wasn’t just Ed who tried out for the show either, as singer Pixie Lott also auditioned but failed to make it to the main cast.
The series aired with Sapphire Elia, Georgina Hagen, Mitch Hewer, Rana Roy, Matthew James Thomas and Marcquelle Ward as the main cast.
Now sixteen years after the show aired, TV viewers have been discussing on TikTok why the series should make a comeback.
Writing in comments on a video, one fan said: “THIS COULD BE THE START OF SOMETHING.”
Another shared: “The songs from this show live in my head rent free.”
“They should have made another season of this,” posted a third.
A fourth added: “OMG I loved this! Was gutted it got cancelled.”
Britannia High ran for just one series and wasn’t renewed by ITV, with the reasons for not continuing cited as ‘failing to capture viewers’ imagination’.
A source at the time told us: “We thought Britannia High would be an all-singing, all-dancing success – especially having the top names in dance and music on board.
“Sadly, the stories of these youngsters vying for their dreams didn’t seem to capture viewers’ imagination.
“The credit crunch is affecting everything, not least TV. A second series of Britannia High was just not viable.”
