His unlicensed bout with Ross Barton (Michael Parr) abruptly ended when police arrived.
Dawn had conspired with Ross to rig the fight – and pawned her wedding ring to get money for a sizeable bet on her husband’s opponent.
She told Billy afterwards: “All that money, gone. And my wedding ring too.
“I pawned it, Billy. How else did I get the money to place the bet?”
Continuing, she added: “[Ross] was supposed to win, that was the plan.
“But you couldn’t let that happen, could you? Because of your pride.”
Billy promised to get his wife’s wedding ring back – but Dawn wasn’t too impressed by the offer.
She responded: “Do what you want. Can’t stop you, can I?
“Get it back, don’t get it back.
“But right now I don’t see myself wearing it again.”
With tears in her eyes, Dawn then left as Billy called out after her.
It’s the latest drama for the couple, whose lives were already turned upside down earlier this year.
They were left devastated after learning their baby boy Evan was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia.
Most complained about soap storylines
Over the years, all three of the main soaps have featured plots that have had even die-hard fans reaching for their phones and laptops so they can get in touch with Ofcom and complain. Here are just some of the most scandalous…
However, viewers recently slammed the storyline, claiming it had been “forgotten”.
One penned: “Taking on a baby storyline like this was the wrong choice. It could never be showcased properly.”
Another added: “Just short conversations now and again, with facts included, would be great.”
Emmerdale continues on ITV1 and ITVX.
