We were second best in our last outing against Cleckheaton, although we managed to stay in the game and gain a valuable bonus point. We have now managed a bonus point in all of our away games which adds up to another win. However we do need to start turning that into victories. As I have mentioned before, we are in a very competitive and tight league. A win or loss can be the difference between going up two or three places or going down two or three places. No team can be taken lightly.
Will Robson and Rob Mewburn are still on the injured list, so James Morris makes his first, well-earned, start for a number of seasons in the back row, joined by Jack Sowersby and Will Hughes. Harry Grant makes a welcome return to the second row.
In the backs, Ryan Murray gets the nod for the stand-off position. Otherwise, the back line stays the same. Joe Robinson returns to take his place on the bench.
As yet, the 2nd XV have no game. I am afraid this is proving a regular occurrence. Unfortunately, the Yorkshire clubs have voted against lower XVs entering the Yorkshire leagues. This was a huge disappointment to us and is no doubt holding us back as we try to get the most competitive rugby we can for the 2nd XV.
Our 3rd XV team travels to Malton to play their 2nd XV : a tough afternoon awaits them. The 4th XV just lost out by a single score last Saturday away at Withernsea – a couple of nasty injuries didn’t help the cause. A good day out for the lads who enjoyed their bus trip back. Today they are on the road again as they travel to Malton to play their 3rd XV.
The Colts had a excellent win against Scarborough last weekend, winning 25-0. This righted the disappointment of losing to them in the Cup.
The Ladies 1st XV travel to Liverpool St. Helens after a good win last Sunday at home against Manchester. They are having an excellent season as they look to maintain their position in the top league places.
It is many years since we last played Huddersfield (in 2013-14) as they made a good fist of playing at Level 4. They had put together a run of four good wins on the bounce before getting beaten at Alnwick last time out (not the easiest of places to go), so will be looking to get back to winning ways. We need to keep our unbeaten home record going to stay in touch with the teams at the top of the league. It will be another tight and absorbing afternoon of rugby. Hopefully we will come out on the right side.
