Ex-Red Sox Stars Back Together? MLB Rumor Opens Door For Reunion
Chris Sale and Nathan Eovaldi teamed up in a steady rotation that helped the Boston Red Sox win the World Series in dominant fashion in 2018.
Now, they could find each other back at the same time, just in the National League.
The Atlanta Braves acquired former Boston ace Chris Sale from the Red Sox in a trade last offseason, sparking a change of scenery that may lead to a Cy Young award for the lefty. Atlanta fell to the San Diego Padres in the opening round of the postseason and will be aggressive in returning to World Series contention.
The rotation will demand attention, particularly regarding the potential departure of Max Fried in free agency. The Braves appear to have their sites set on Eovaldi “near the top of (their) wish list,” according to MLB.com’s Mark Bowman.
Eovaldi declined his player option from the Texas Rangers, who he won a championship with in 2023, to return to the open market and potentially find another multi-year deal elsewhere. Signing with the Braves would have Eovaldi in prime position to win his third championship with three different teams after the Red Sox and Rangers.
Doing so with Sale would add a full-circle moment to the veteran’s MLB career.
