When I lived in New England, Christmas tree farms were a dime a dozen. That is why I was shocked when I moved to Kansas and found the options for buying real Christmas trees few and far between. What was available was quite costly—two or three times the price of what I was used to in Massachusetts.
If you too live in an area where real Christmas trees are pricey and hard to come by, or if going to pick out a Christmas tree just sounds stressful to-do list item, many stores are selling real Christmas trees that you buy inexpensively online and have delivered to your home. All of the options below offer quality trees at competitive prices with free or inexpensive delivery. The earlier you order your tree, the better. Check the retailer's shipping information to find out the last day for delivery by Christmas.
Most of the fresh trees at The Home Depot cost between $50 and $200, depending on tree height and species. However, in our experience, stock tends to go fast. A few trees we found were a 5- to 8.5-foot Fraser fir from North Carolina and a 5-foot Douglas fir from Oregon. Home Depot also offers an anticipated ship date.

Lowe's isn't well-stocked at the time of this writing, but once the season gets underway you can expect a good selection and free delivery.

If you want an experience that has some semblance of visiting a Christmas tree farm, this is about as close as you can get online. They offer a wide variety, including Balsam Fir, Fraser Fir, and Blue Spruce trees ranging from three to nine feet. You can reserve your tree any time during the year and pick a delivery date between November 20 and December 22. Shipping is generally free, except for customers in West Coast states, who will pay a modest $14.99 delivery fee.
