E. Jean Carroll's 5 Word Response to Her Accused Rapist Winning the Election Is Heartbreaking
E. Jean Carroll has broken her silence after the man found liable for sexually assaulting her became the first convicted felon to win a presidential election.
“I tried to tell you,” wrote Carroll in a heart-wrenching post on X on Nov. 6 after Donald Trump was elected president for the second time, prompting many supporters to offer their condolences to her as she faces another presidential term with her abuser in office.
“I am so sorry, E. Jean, America failed you!” wrote one supporter. “I’m so sorry your fellow Americans picked a rapist over their wives, sisters, and daughters,” added another.
Carroll, who has tirelessly campaigned against Trump, is owed over $83 million in damages from the president-elect after a 2023 federal jury found him liable for sexually assaulting her and defaming her by denying her allegations.
On Nov. 3, Carroll shared a photo of herself at a polling station with the caption, “I voted for the candidate that does not assault women.”
Though Trump was found liable for sexual assault, not rape, Judge Lewis Kaplan, who presided over the trial, said that Carroll did prove that Trump “raped” Carroll in the plain sense of the word, just not in within New York law’s narrow definition of rape.
“The finding that Ms. Carroll failed to prove that she was ‘raped’ within the meaning of the New York Penal Law does not mean that she failed to prove that Mr. Trump ‘raped’ her as many people commonly understand the word ‘rape,'” Kaplan wrote in a memorandum opinion after the ruling, per Business Insider.
“Indeed, as the evidence at trial recounted below makes clear, the jury found that Mr. Trump in fact did exactly that.”
Carroll first claimed that Trump forcibly raped her in late 1995 or early 1996, in a dressing room inside New York City’s Bergdorf Goodman department store, where she ran into him, in a June 2019 New York magazine article. In November of that year, she filed her defamation suit after Trump accused her of lying about the allegation.
Due to Trump’s separate conviction on 34 felony counts related to his attempts to bury evidence of an illegal conspiracy to influence the 2016 election, he is now the first convicted felon to win a presidential election.
