2024 Veterans Day events around the Capital Region
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- Veterans Day is Monday, November 11. This federal holiday honors military veterans of the United States Armed Forces.
On Monday, New York State is also honoring veterans by waiving the fishing license requirement for all residents and non-residents. There will also be free and discounted prices for Veterans at State Parks, golf courses, museums, restaurants and even family-friendly attractions across the state.
Here are some of the Veterans Day events open to the public around the Capital Region.
Veterans Day Parade, Albany
Albany is saluting its veterans on Monday, November 11 with a parade starting at 11 a.m. The parade route marches down Central Avenue and ends at the corner of Washington Avenue and Hawk Street near the State Education Building. The American Gold Star Mothers will host a wreath laying on Veterans Day at 9:30 a.m., at the Our Lady of Peace in Memorial Grove, prior to the parade.
Veterans Day Aboard USS Slater, Albany
USS Slater is honoring veterans with a ceremony at 9 a.m. on November 11 on the observation deck. After the ceremony, USS Slater will be open for tours and offering all Veterans free admission.
Veterans Day Parade, Amsterdam
Beginning at 10 a.m. on Veterans Day, the City of Amsterdam is honoring those who served, with a parade and ceremony. The parade will start on the corner of Guy Park Ave and will end with a ceremony at West End Veterans Memorial Park.
Veterans Day Ceremony, Cohoes
The City of Cohoes and E.T. Ruane Post 476 is hosting a Veterans Day Ceremony on November 11 at 2 p.m. The ceremony will take place in Veterans Memorial Park on Columbia Street, but if there is inclement weather, it will be held at the American Legion.
Veterans Day Service, Rotterdam
There will be a Veterans Day Service at Rotterdam Veterans Monument on November 11 at 2:30 p.m.
SUNY Adirondack Veterans Day Ceremony, Queensbury
SUNY Adirondack is hosting its annual Veterans Day ceremony beginning at noon on November 11 in the Northwest Bay Conference Center in Adirondack Hall. The ceremony will include remarks from local elected officials and will feature an artwork exhibition inspired by the theme "What is a veteran?"
Veterans Day Ruck March, Voorheesville
The third annual Veterans Day Ruck March returns to Voorheesville on Sunday, November 10. This nonprofit fundraiser features a 6.8-mile march down the Albany County Rail Trail, beginning at the Voorheesville American Legion and ending at the new Blackbirds Tavern.
Veterans Day War Memorial Ceremony, Poughkeepsie
Dutchess County is honoring Veterans at a war memorial ceremony on November 11. The County’s Veterans Day ceremony at the Dutchess County War Memorial, located at John K. Rinaldi Memorial Park at the intersection of Raymond Avenue and Main Street in the Town of Poughkeepsie will begin at 11 a.m.
Veterans Day Parade, Pittsfield
The city’s annual Veterans Day parade will begin at 10 a.m. on November 11, with a lineup beginning at 9:30 a.m. The parade will travel to North Street and head south to the Veterans Memorial on South Street, where a ceremony will follow.
Veterans Day Parade and Hometown Heroes, Bennington
Bennington is honoring its veterans with a parade, salute, and wreath laying ceremony. The parade is on November 11 and starts at 11 a.m. at the old junior high on Main Street and will pause at the VFW for an honorary salute. The parade will end at Vermont Veterans Home for the wreath-laying ceremony.
