Dominic Solanke opens up on his fitness and Tottenham vs Galatasaray
Dominic Solanke joined Ange Postecoglou in the press conference ahead of the Europa League clash with Galatasaray, and the Spurs striker discussed his confidence levels after a clinical showing at the weekend.
Dominic Solanke is on fire
Joining Tottenham Hotspur for a massive £65m in the summer, it’s safe to say there was a great degree of pressure on the shoulders of Dominic Solanke as Ange Postecoglou‘s new leading striker.
He’s been mightily impressive, though, and his return of four goals and two assists in 13 games has gone a long way to justifying his price tag.
Solanke’s game has offered more than simply goals, though, with the striker proving to be the perfect centre forward for Postecoglou’s system thanks to his energetic pressing, high work rate, neat link-up play, and movement in the attacking third.
Indeed, no player in the Premier League has registered more pressures in the final third than Solanke’s 240 across the season (JonoBlain), with the closest competitor only managing 175.
Solanke’s season hit new heights on Sunday when he bagged two goals in the 4-1 win over Aston Villa, including a deft chip and a well-timed tap-in.
Fitness is key for Dominic Solanke
Speaking to the press (via Football.London), Solanke was asked about the start he has made to his career at Spurs, and how he’s feeling after that brilliant brace against Aston Villa on Sunday.
He said: “I feel great. There’s a lot of games this season and we’re going to need everyone. I’m a fit person. I like to work hard and with the staff and everyone looking out for us and our recovery and we’re thankful for that.
“Galatasary are a huge club with a lot of our history and the atmosphere they create is immense. In our squad, we’ve got a lot of players who have played in big stadiums and big atmospheres. We’ll be ready for it but it’s something we’re looking forward to. With the young players, it’s good for everyone to learn and experience.”
Dominic Solanke could really make his mark in Turkey
If Spurs are to get anything out of this incredibly challenging trip to Turkey, Solanke will be at the heart of it. He’s scored some good goals already, and is playing really well, but if he can put in a strong showing against Galatasaray, in the intensity of RAMS Park, Solanke will really announce himself as a big-game player.
