Team News: Mikey Moore and Richarlison miss Tottenham vs Galatasaray clash
Ange Postecoglou has offered an update on the injured players in his squad ahead of the next Europa League game against Galatasaray on Thursday evening.
Tottenham injury list is growing
Spurs have been relatively lucky with injuries this season, at least compared to the disastrous injury crisis that derailed Postecoglou‘s first season in charge.
However, a number of players have been added to the Tottenham injury list of late, causing Postecoglou to rotate his squad a little more than he might have liked.
Wilson Odobert and Djed Spence have been out for a while now, but they’ve been joined by Micky van de Ven recently, who suffered a hamstring strain early on in the Carabao Cup win over Manchester City last week.
Then, in Sunday’s demolition job against Aston Villa, Cristian Romero withdrew early in the second half with a foot issue, and Richarlison was subbed on and off again after just 20 minutes, also with a hamstring injury.
Meanwhile, the fitness of Heung-min Son has been a hot topic over the last month or so, with the Spurs skipper in and out of the team and struggling to complete 90 minutes.
Ange Postecoglou’s injury update
In his latest press conference (via Football.London), Postecoglou was asked which players are set to be absent through injury for the game against Galatasaray tomorrow night.
He said: “From the weekend, Richy injured his hamstring. He’ll be out for a while. Romero nothing too serious, still a chance for the weekend.
“Timo Werner a little bit of a groin issue he’s carrying, so he didn’t travel and Mikey Moore has a bit of a virus so he was left at home. Everyone else who was fit should be available.”
Galatasaray game is a strange situation for Spurs
In many ways, Ange Postecoglou would obviously want his full-strength team for this game against Galatasaray, and it will take a monumental effort to get something from an incredibly tough opponent.
But, at the same time, it’s almost one of those games where, if rotation is necessary anyway, it might take a little bit of the pressure off the team. The players stepping in will be hungry to show what they can do, and they might just surprise us.
