Ange Postecoglou names six Spurs stars who have grown this season
Postecoglou believes that there has been significant individual growth in the Tottenham players this year. This development gives him belief that his optimistic outlook for the season will come to fruition.
Fan sentiment fluctuates, but Postecoglou remains consistent
Tottenham are a team moving in the right direction. While only in 7th in the Premier League table, they are a mere 3 points from third place. They have scored the most goals of any Premier League team and are tied with Manchester City and Arsenal in conceding the 4th fewest.
There are still questions to be answered in their away form, but Ange Postecoglou has been praising his players for their individual effort. He believes it is evidence for optimism and the reason this team is putting in better performances than last year’s campaign.
Ange praises growth and reveals that it gives him ‘belief’
During an interview with SkySport, Postecoglou has praised the growth he has seen in his players.
He said (SkySports): “I’ve seen real growth in individuals within the team. You look at the likes of Brennan, Kulusevski, Pedro, Bentancur this year, Pape Sarr, I mean I can go through the whole team. I’ve seen a real, kind of growth in them.
“That’s for me the biggest thing, is that if I continually see growth in the players then… and within that context, they’ve all had disappointments during the year. You know, disappointing performances, but I just feel they are so much more advanced than where we were last year.
“That is the key indicator for me, if we keep growing, these players keep evolving. Like I said, this is still a young group, with not a lot of, sort of, fairly entrenched experience or experience with success behind it.
“So that to me is the biggest positive, you know, in Vicario in goal. You know, I just feel like these guys are growing all the time and that’s giving me the most belief in kind of my, for want of a better word, optimistic outlook on it.”
Growth is key at Tottenham
Each player at Tottenham is developing; from the versatility Johnson is bringing to his finishing this year, to Kulusevski cementing his place in a different position or even Son adjusting to a different playing style.
The growth is the exciting part. There is a joy in players developing, either excelling in their pre-existing skillet or adding more to their game to bring variety to each performance.
The fact that this is happening across the board from Tottenham’s youth players to senior stars, shows Postecoglou is right to feel optimistic about this team’s future.
