EasyJet founder launches new sports betting platform with EasyBet
EASYBET has officially landed.
The easyGroup, known primarily for low-cost airline easyJet, has entered the sports betting industry with their new online sportsbook.
Greek-Cypriot billionaire Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, who founded the budget airline in 1995, has stamped the Easy brand on everything from dog walking services to storage units.
And sports betting is the next cab off the rank. Sorry, the next EasyTaxi off the rank.
EasyBet is a joint-venture alongside Matchbook, who are already an established player in the UK betting market and will operate and pay a licence fee to EasyGroup.
The website, which includes the famous orange colours and launched in late October, is a similar exchange model to that of Matchbook and Betfair.
So rather than a more traditional experience of betting against the bookmakers, a betting exchange provides the platform for its customers to match bets against each other and takes a small commission on winnings.
The easyGroup has historically had to pursue several infringement cases that have seen “brand thieves” use the ‘easy’ name in the sports betting industry such as EasyBet.com and EasyBet.co.za.
“We are delighted to welcome easyBet.net to the ‘easy’ family of brands which is a natural new market to complement our other large consumer brands in the UK and Ireland,” Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou said.
“Launched at the beginning of October 2024 , easyBet offers Peer to Peer betting with the aim of giving customers fairer odds than traditional bookmakers.
“It allows you to bet on sports events – you can back what you think will win or lay what you think will lose. We believe this model offers fairer odds to the consumer.”
