BoCCF to host conversation series exploring island’s insularity, modernity
Within the framework of the exhibition “Cyprus Insula – History, Memory, Reality”, the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation (BoCCF) invites bαhçές Histories* of Cyprus, for a series of conversations on themes central the island’s insularity and modernity.
bαhçές Histories* of Cyprus is an independent public history initiative aiming to showcase fresh and exciting perspectives on the island’s past, via online discussions with anyone – within and without the country’s borders – as well as through live participatory events.
bαhçές aims to create an interactive and engaging space, where new and challenging questions about history, society, culture and identity can be examined.
Throughout the duration of, and prompted by, the Cyprus Insula exhibition, bαhçές invites you to re/think Cyprus’ history through the lenses of insularity and modernity.
A series of conversations, events for adults and family activities will bridge academic research, cultural heritage and public engagement, contributing toward a deeper understanding of Cyprus’ rich history and its implications for contemporary society.
Conversations programme:
- November 20, 2024: Resurrecting Famagusta in 1862: An Early Cypriot Project of Urban Modernity
- December 18, 2024: Photography and Cyprus: Representations of the Island and its People from the 19th-20th Centuries
- January 15, 2025: Cyprus Mines Corporation (CMC): Society, Environment and Politics in early 20th-Century Cyprus
Times:
- 5.30-6pm: Ground-floor welcome tour of Cyprus Insula exhibition area
- 6.30-8pm 45-minute discussion, followed by 45-minute Q&A

- Patsalides Lecture Hall – Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation
A chance to participate via live will be available during discussions, which will be held in English with simultaneous translation into Greek and vice versa.
