2 arrested, cars towed after street takeover in North Portland
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Two people were arrested after a street takeover event in North Portland Tuesday night, authorities said.
According to Portland police, officers responded to North Lombard Street and North Chautauqua Boulevard after reports of drivers taking over the intersection.
Police said there had also been reports of possible gunshots, however, they believe the noises were just fireworks as there was no evidence of any gunfire.
Responding officers said they attempted to stop the drivers who were involved in the takeover, but some tried fleeing the scene.
Two vehicles were stopped and one driver, Oscar L. Leal-Mendoza, 19, was arrested for unlawful street takeover and reckless driving.
Officers in the area said they also stopped a different driver who was caught going almost 100 miles per hour on North Marine Drive.
Nicole R. Bell, 18, was taken in and faces charges including reckless driving, attempt to elude by vehicle and resisting arrest.
Two cars were towed as a result of the takeover, authorities said.
