What is Clip It? Roblox’s social media feature explained
CLIP It is the latest in a string of new social media platforms that bear a striking resemblance to TikTok.
However, this new platform will be incorporated into the hit online gaming platform Roblox.
A new way to post online
Clip It was released in March 2024 by Neura Studios, the parent company which also owns Roblox.
It’s been a runway success, with the feature already counting over one billion views as of November 2024.
Clip It functions in a very similar way to TikTok, with users posting short videos which can be easily swiped through.
Users will be able to create videos using their own unique avatars, so they won’t be recording real life videos as they would on the ByteDance-owned social media platform.
As a result, people who want to use Clip It will need to have a Roblox account.
A place for every niche
There is a lot of excitement surrounding Clip It, particularly from the team involved in creating the platform
MakeShift is an ad company which is partnered with Clip It and their co-founder has shared that there will be a “place for every niche” on their new product.
He said: “For games, even if the size or demo is right, the fit is often wrong, and that makes ads feel foreign or disingenuous.
“But nothing is off-topic in Clip It, because like YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and other content apps, there’s a place for every niche.”
The company has big plans Clip It, with Ben adding: “As a rule of thumb: if there’s a feature you’re used to using in advertisements on TikTok, Snap, Instagram or YouTube Shorts, it’s either there or will be soon.”
Titan of online gaming
Clip It will be accessible through Roblox, one of the biggest names in online gaming.
The gaming platform has millions of players logging on everyday to design their own characters and unique ways of having fun.
For example, some players started working in an online Ikea store while others have started competing in virtual runway competitions.
The popularity of the platform has made it a hotspot for celebrities who are marketing their latest albums or films.
Stars including Lil Nas X, Charli XCX and David Guetta have all performed virtually on Roblox.
