Rappler Talk Entertainment: Iza Calzado and ‘Tiny Beautiful Things’
MANILA, Philippines – For years, author Cheryl Strayed had anonymously run Dear Sugar, an advice column that sought to help answer people’s woes on love and life. In 2012, Strayed officially published Tiny Beautiful Things: Advice on Love and Life, the book that compiles the letters the author received as Sugar, and the corresponding advice she gave the senders.
Now, Tiny Beautiful Things is coming to life on the Philippine stage in the form of a play adapted by Nia Vardalos. In this Rappler Talk Entertainment episode, senior producer JC Gotinga sits down with Iza Calzado — who plays Sugar — to talk about the book-to-stage adaptation, as well as what her character Sugar is like.
Running from November 16 to December 8 at the Power Mac Center Spotlight Black Box Theater, Circuit Makati, The Sandbox Collective’s Tiny Beautiful Things will be directed by Jenny Jamora. The cast also includes Rody Vera, Gabby Padilla, Ketchup Eusebio, and Regina De Vera, who will be playing letter writers. They will be joined by Brian Sy, who will be serving as the swing or letter-writer for certain performances.
