Nintendo officially confirms that Switch 2’s most requested feature will be available at launch
NINTENDO still hasn’t made a formal reveal for the successor to the Nintendo Switch, but we have received official information.

We still haven’t received a reveal video or trailer for the Switch 2, but Furukawa has shared more information about the upcoming console.
The most requested feature for the Switch 2 is backwards compatibility with Nintendo’s amazing library of Switch games.
Furukawa confirms that this will be possible, alongside the ability to access Nintendo Switch Online.
On Twitter Furukawa said: “This is Furukawa. At today’s Corporate Management Policy Briefing, we announced that Nintendo Switch software will also be playable on the successor to Nintendo Switch.
“Nintendo Switch Online will be available on the successor to Nintendo Switch as well.
“Further information about the successor to Nintendo Switch, including its compatibility with Nintendo Switch, will be announced at a later date.”
Nintendo is still keeping quiet about just what the upcoming console will feature, but Nintendo fans are thrilled to see their most requested feature is a guarantee.
Do the Mario
This is a huge win for Nintendo and for consumers given the huge number of people who have purchased and use the original Switch.
The Nintendo Switch has one of the strongest libraries among the current generation of consoles, and people want to be able to play these games on the latest consoles.
If Nintendo had decided to leave the Switch’s library on the original console it’s possible that there would be far fewer sales for the upcoming system.
The addition of Nintendo Switch Online for the upcoming console is also a huge win as it’s one of the best value subscription packages on the market.
It’s the cheapest gaming subscription service currently available, and with almost 300 games there is plenty to enjoy.
Switch Online consists of only older games, but with Nintendo’s strong list of franchises such as Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda and Pokémon, these games are still classics.
