‘They want him OUT’ say Strictly fans as dancer slammed by fans lands ‘hardest ever’ dance this weekend
SHAYNE Ward has already faced the Strictly dance off twice this series and as he gets ready to rumba this week, viewers are convinced that the notoriously difficult dance could be his undoing.
The X Factor winner and his professional partner Nancy Xu, 33, gained the strong score of 35 for their quickstep to the Beatles song, Help, during Icons week on Saturday.
Shayne has been the public eye since shooting to fame on the X Factor back in 2005[/caption] Shayne was in the dance off for the second time running during Halloween week but was saved by the judges[/caption]But as the unforgiving latin dance looms, Strictly fans are wondering whether his number could be up.
The rumba is widely considered to be one of the most challenging of ballroom dances because it requires a lot of body movement, hip action and close partner work, as well as a complete mastery of all the details.
Writing on social media site Reddit one person commented: “I do worry for Shayne this week. Not sure how he and Nancy will make their rumba stand out amongst all the rest of the chaos.”
Another person also shared their doubts: “The only chance hs has of getting out of the dance off is if he gets 40. And even if he got 40, there would still be a good chance of him going.”
One viewer observed that its going to be a difficult week for Shayne to shine.
They said: “I can’t see Shayne surviving this week, unfortunately. With Pete and Chris both getting the couples choice, and Wynne being over scored weekly, I feel like he’ll be low down on the leaderboard, if not bottom. Terrible week to get a tough dance.”
Meanwhile another person echoed the concerns, they said: “i think he couldve done a really good rumba in any other (and earlier) week- but the combo of everyone elses dances puts him in major danger, unfortunately.”
During his VT on last week’s show, Shayne reflected on his X Factor success when in 2005 he sailed to victory on the ITV talent show.
Unlike his time so far on Striclty, never once was Shayne in the bottom two as he admits to coming to terms with the fact that the public have not supported him like they did back in 2005.
Speaking about ending up in the dance off after Halloween week, he said:
Being in that bottom two, I was gutted, you know. In that moment, you’re thinking, ‘Is this the end of my adventure on Strictly?’.
“We’re just truly grateful to the judges for putting us through.”
Atlhough he won decent scores from judges Craig Revel Horwood, Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke, it seems that Shayne hasn’t quite won the hearts of the viewers.
Most recently he saw off Doctor Punam Krishan in week 6 of the competition and DIY SOS star Nick Knowles in week four.
But whether the judges will save him a third time, should he end up in the dance off, is anyone’s guess.
But Shayne is nothing if not a showbiz survivor. After the success of his song That’s my Goal becoming the fastet selling singles in UK chart history his pop career nose dived in 2010, when his third album failed to make the top ten and he was dropped by Simon Cowell’s record label, Syco.
But he dusted himself off and performed in Rock of Ages in the West End, before starring in the area tour of Jeff Wayne’s The War of the Worlds.
Then in 2015 he landed the coveted role of the trouble Aiden Connor in Coronation Street, whose suicidal storyline won him praise a big TV following for his realistic portrayal.
Away from the cameras Shayne is a family man living with his fiancé, former Hollyoaks actress Sophie Austin and their two children, Willow, 7 and Reign, 2.
In an interview with the Sun, the singer turned actor said he has no regrets about appearing on X Factor all those years ago.
He says: “I wouldn’t be where I am right now in my career and my personal life with my two amazing children and my amazing partner, Sophie.
“I think it gave me life lessons. I’ve travelled the world and I’ve got to have these incredible moments thanks to starting out on The X Factor.”
