Restaurant review: Suite 48, Paphos
Suite 48 is a valuable lesson about how it is essential not to forget certain restaurants we might have once enjoyed. It is probably pre-Covid since I was last there. It was a meeting place I regularly enjoyed with friends for a post-beach walk coffee or lunch. It is invisible from Poseidonos Avenue, which is probably typical for many seaside locations. There are no signs at all.
Additionally, there is also a barrier you have to go through, which might be inhibiting for the first-time visitor. Thankfully, an arranged meet-up came through with Suite 48 as the chosen venue.
As restaurants go, few can compete with this place regarding location and style. The venue affords the best sea views near the water’s edge, and the whole place has been designed with a very relaxed vibe. Tables are spread out in different areas, allowing lots of space in between, mainly protected from the sun with substantial shade sails. On the morning we visited, choosing which table to sit at was a problem as they were all so tempting.
The menu is beautifully designed and presented at the table with various dining and drinking options. No QR codes here. It is an all-day dining destination, with brunch from 9am to 2pm. The main menu includes small plates, salads, artisan sandwiches, pizzas, and pasta, and a short collection of main dishes starting from €19. For this visit and a subsequent one a week later, we were there for brunch, and it was hard to select from the list of eight dishes. A good brunch is surprisingly hard to find in Paphos.
The selection is carefully put together, from calorific dishes to healthier options. They have certainly put their twist by incorporating classic breakfast varieties with a slant. There is no better example of this on the menu than the humble bacon roll, which at Suite 48 is called the BC Jam and consists of bacon, ham, cheddar cheese, and strawberry jam in a bagel. Surprisingly, it works really well.
We also ordered the Tower of Pancakes, a generous portion of eight thick pancakes with maple syrup on the side. For 50 cents extra, you can request bacon, which we asked to be well-cooked. The Suite’s tower would be hard to beat for any pancake lover.
Another main brunch dish was the Wall St, basically an Eggs Benedict with a new name and no twist. However, it was expertly cooked and arrived piping hot with two poached eggs, bacon on an English muffin, and lashings of Hollandaise sauce. I have had this dish at 5-star establishments, and they were certainly not as good as this version.
All the dishes were beautifully presented on very modern dark crockery, which looked heavy for the staff to carry back and forth. The brunch menu has a good choice of accompanying drinks, with the normal espressos and cappuccinos in all varieties but with the addition of cold brew coffee and kakau. They also have a great choice of smoothies and juices.
Suite 48 is also famous for its cocktails, which we did not sample on our morning visits so we returned one evening to watch the sunset from this fabulous viewpoint. The cocktails are not cheap, but they are next level in terms of ingredients and preparation. For gin aficionados, there is a huge choice of classic and artisan brands.
It is essential to mention that at the end of the meal, you must take your receipt with you as this has the magic code to get out of the car park.
With the current temperatures in Paphos, now is the perfect time to visit Suite 48. As they will not be closing for the winter, the small inside dining area may come in use for rainy days.
