Recap: Vees get shutout in West Kelowna, lose second straight

WEST KELOWNA, B.C. – The Penticton Vees suffered their first shutout loss of the season on Tuesday night, losing 3-0 to the West Kelowna Warriors at Royal LePage Place.

Tuesday’s defeat in West Kelowna was the Vees second straight, as they were coming off a 6-2 setback to the Brooks Bandits on Saturday.
Offense was hard to come by for the Vees on Tuesday, as thy were held to just 14 shots through 40 minutes. Penticton finished with just four scoring chances.
West Kelowna’s Dawson Labre earned his first shutout of the season, as he stopped all 29 shots the Vees fired his way. Penticton’s Will Ingemann stopped 28 of 30 shots at the other end of the rink.
Jackson Kyrkostas, Callum Hughes, and Dylan Krayer scored for the Warriors. Kyrkostas and Hughes scored in the second and Krayer scored the empty net goal late in the third period.
Kyrkostas scored his first goal of the season two minutes into the second period to open the scoring. His goal came during a four-on-four sequence. Hughes goal came shorthanded seven and half minutes into the middle frame, as he made it 2-0 at 7:32.
The third period was the Vees’ best, as they outshot the Warriors 15-8, but they couldn’t get one passed Labre. Brock Reinhart came close, with the game 2-0, his point shot hit the post and stayed out.
Krayer sealed the win for the Warriors with his empty net goal at 17:24.
GAME NOTES
Forward Louie Wehmann made his Vees debut on Tuesday. Wehmann signed with the Vees earlier in the day, after starting the season in the USHL. Penticton’s road record dropped 7-4-0-0. Tuesday was the Vees’ first shutout loss since December 8, 2023.
