Harris wins Minnesota
Vice President Harris will win her running mate’s home state of Minnesota, adding 10 electoral votes to her total, Decision Desk HQ projects.
Harris’s win is not a major surprise in a state that has voted Democratic in every presidential election since 1972, but it is a necessary part of the Midwestern “blue wall” that may prove crucial to a winning strategy in the Electoral College for Democrats.
Although Democrats have carried the state regularly, their margins of victory have been somewhat close in more recent years, usually within 10 points. And polling had shown when President Biden was still in the race and faltering that the state seemed to be possibly in play.
But Democrats’ lead in the state expanded once Harris entered the race, and her selection of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate was seen as shoring up the state even more so.
