Democrat Lee Kindlon wins Albany County DA race
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Democrat Lee Kindlon has won the Albany County District Attorney race. According to the Albany County Board of Elections, Kindlon won 65% of the vote, beating Republican Ralph Ambrosio and incumbent David Soares.
All three candidates said bail reform was a top issue. Kindlon, a defense attorney, spoke to NEWS10 in his candidate interview saying his opponents had complained about the policy since it was enacted in 2019. Kindlon claimed they spoke out but they didn't offer any solutions.
Soares, who lost the June Democratic primary to Kindlon, was running as a write-in candidate. In his candidate interview with NEWS10, Soares said it’s been a failure since it was enacted in 2019 and needs to go.
Ambrosio said bail reform was flawed from the start. While it had been altered following growing criticism, he pointed out those changes were made in budget negotiations, without any debate from the legislature.
