Angelo Santabarbara wins New York's 111th State Assembly District
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Democrat incumbent Angelo Santabarbara has won the race for New York's 111th State Assembly District. The Associated Press has called the race for Santabarbara over Republican Joseph Mastroianni.
New York's 111th State Assembly District includes parts of Schenectady and Montgomery Counties. Santabarbara was elected to the state assembly as the first representative of the 111th District back in 2012.
"I am deeply honored by the trust and support of the voters in this election. Tonight’s victory is a testament to our shared commitment to building a stronger, more inclusive community. This campaign has been about making a real difference for families, businesses, and individuals throughout our district, and I am excited to continue this important work," Santabarbara said. "I want to thank everyone who supported our efforts, volunteered, and believed in our vision for a brighter future. Together, we will keep moving forward to make our community safer, more affordable, and full of opportunity for everyone. Thank you for this privilege – let’s get to work!"
Santabarbara served for eight years in the United States Army Reserve and is currently the Assembly's Chairman of the Libraries and Education Technology Committee. His platform focused on cultivating a strong, healthy, and vibrant state with a commitment to being a vocal advocate for people with disabilities.
Mastroianni is a Rotterdam Town Board member. In his candidate interview with NEWS10, he said his platform prioritized addressing residents leaving New York due to affordability and improving the quality of life in the state. This was Mastroianni's second time running against Santabarbara.
Since his candidate interview, Mastroianni was accused of being caught on camera taking his opponent’s political flier out of someone’s mailbox in Scotia and replacing it with his own. He told this to NEWS10: “It’s frustrating that I can’t communicate about the situation, but I’m fully cooperating with all authorities, and I look forward to the resolution to this issue."
