Daily Show's Jon Stewart chides Dem senator for last-minute bail on Election night show
"The Daily Show" host Jon Stewart opened his live election night coverage by cracking a joke about his own audience's enthusiasm — as former President Donald Trump took a commanding lead over Vice President Kamala Harris — and chided a Democratic senator who apparently canceled on the show seconds before he was to appear.
As the audience erupted into cheers, Stewart joked: "That is the sound of a crowd that does not have access to a television set and does not know what's happening in the world."
He later poked fun at MSNBC's coverage, noting the pundits' faces "look like someone's sponsorship deal with Warby Parker is over."

After a commercial break, Stewart joked his audience doesn't care who wins — "they're just here to party."
Stewart's quips come as Harris' path to victory dwindles — The New York Times estimated Trump's chances of winning at 89 percent.
Later in his show, Stewart said Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) bailed on him with just 30 seconds to go before he was to appear on the show.
"He is unable to join us," Stewart told viewers. "But because we are a professional and venerated news show, it's not like I just have to sit here — "
The comedian then turned to his papers on his desk and did just that. After a long pause, he continued.
"With nobody to talk to and nothing to do. Just because somebody said — thirty seconds before we were supposed to have him as a guest — 'Yeah I'm not making it,'" chided Stewart.
