Liverpool’s run of difficult fixtures shows no signs of slowing down as Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen visit Anfield.

The Reds have passed every test since the last international break after beating Brighton, Chelsea, RB Leipzig, and earning a 2-2 draw against Arsenal.

Bayer Leverkusen are next up before matches against Aston Villa, Manchester City, Newcastle and Real Madrid over the next six weeks.

Arne Slot’s table-toppers lead the Premier League standings by two points having won eight of their ten fixtures.

They are also flying high in the Champions League having won all three of their opening games against AC Milan, Bologna and RB Leipzig.

And they might just fancy their chances of maintaining that 100% record against Leverkusen with Slot’s side having lost just one of their last 21 European meetings with German opponents (W14 D6).

They’ve also won three of their four Champions League matches against Bayer Leverkusen, while the visitors have only won one of their 11 away major European matches in England – and that was against Spurs in 2016.

Xabi Alonso – who won the Champions League as a Liverpool player – remains in charge despite offers from the likes of Liverpool and Barcelona following his title success last season.

But it’s not been as straightforward this time around.

Leverkusen have only suffered one league defeat, but their opening nine games include four draws and a whopping 15 goals scored against them – leaving them seven points behind leaders Bayern Munich.

Saying that, since the start of last season, no team have won more games (11) or scored more goals (37) in European competition than Leverkusen. They remain unbeaten in this competition this term after wins over AC Milan and Feyenoord before an unfortunate draw with Brest.

Arne Slot’s side haven’t been brilliant at the back in recent weeks. The Reds have conceded five in their last three outings – and were perhaps a touch fortunate not to have conceded a few more against Brighton over the weekend.

That should be good news for the visitors, who’ve scored 2+ goals in 10 of their 15 competitive matches this season. Although, as mentioned above, they have a habit of conceding having shipped 15 league goals in nine games – having leaked just 24 in the whole of last season.
