'It's shocking': Acadia Parish residents express concerns during meeting about new 'swingers club'
ACADIA, La. (KLFY) -- Nearly 100 residents gathered at the courthouse in front of the Acadia Parish Police Jury to discuss their concerns about a new swinger's club, Fantasies Lifestyle Club, being built in Branch.
Some individuals went to the podium, where they had two minutes to articulate their views on the proposed establishment.
Linda Conroy, a resident in the parish, said she found out Monday morning that the club would be built in a neighborhood in Branch. She said has many questions on why the parish has strict restrictions on other businesses being built, but not the club.
"It's shocking to me when I saw it on TV this morning, I was watching my norm and when they said what was fixing to happen in Branch, I literally freaked out. They have had a tight hold on bars opening up, different things in Acadia Parish, and why would they allow something like this to take place," Conroy said.
Santana Brown, a resident in Church Point, said she has no issues with the business locating in the parish because people should have the freedom to express themselves.
"I have no problems with the business coming to the parish, I believe that everybody should be able to live their life the way they want to as long as it's not doing harm to anybody else," Brown said.
Cera Prince, another resident, said she is afraid the club will affect the quality of life in surrounding neighborhoods. Prince said she hopes the parish will take all residents' worries into consideration.
"I think it opens the door to a lot of other things like drug use becoming the norm, and it's just against God, and we don't need America going to Babylon. Please listen to us and our concerns," Prince said.
