VIDEO: Security footage shows Vancouver ballot box explosion
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Newly released security footage shows the moment a Vancouver ballot box was set on fire and left to explode, leaving nearly 500 ballots to burn inside.
Video of the incident shows a car pulling up to the ballot box at 3510 SE 164th Ave on Monday, Oct. 28, stopping at the drop-off point, and driving away just seconds before sparks flew and an explosion led the ballot box to catch fire.
Authorities said they believe the burned ballot box may be connected to two other incidents in October. One took place earlier that morning in Southeast Portland and another happened weeks prior at another Vancouver ballot drop-off location.
Details about the arson suspect remain limited. Police said the suspect is a man between 30 and 40 years old who is either bald or has very short hair with a medium-to-thin build, a dark shirt, and a thin face.
Officials also shared the suspect may have "a wealth of experience with metal fabrication and welding" and may strike again before being found.
The suspect vehicle, as seen in Monday's released video, is described as a black or dark-colored 2001-2004 Volvo S-60 that may have “places on it that are more matte in color than a standard shiny finish” as well as a tan or light gray interior with an after-market grill with the Volvo emblem missing.
Anyone with information related to this suspect is encouraged to contact police.
