Dominic Solanke stats vs Aston Villa may be his best yet for Spurs
Spurs registered a huge win over Aston Villa this weekend, and star striker Dominic Solanke was right at the heart of the success with an incredible performance.
A glorious win for Spurs
Despite a positive first-half display, Tottenham found themselves trailing at the interval after Villa capitalised on the Lilywhites’ fragility in defending set-pieces, with Morgan Rogers poking home just before the break.
However, Ange Postecoglou‘s men came out of the traps strong in the second half, and a wonderful Heung-min Son cross was tapped in by Brennan Johnson to level the scores after just three minutes.
It took another 25 minutes for Spurs to make a real breakthrough and turn the game on its head, though, and Solanke was key to that.
First, the striker picked up an inch-perfect through ball from Dejan Kulusevski before sending a sublime chip over Emi Martinez to give Tottenham the lead. Then, just minutes later, Solanke was on hand to convert a Richarlison cross to send Spurs out of sight.
Dominic Solanke’s perfect centre-forward display
As per FotMob statistics, Solanke was the star man on the day for Spurs, receiving the highest rating of any player on the pitch at 8.9 out of 10.
He scored two goals from five chances, outperforming his 1.52 xG. Overall, he was accurate with three of his four shots, with one being blocked.
Solanke registered 19 touches throughout the game, with seven of them being in the opposition box. He also made one accurate pass into the final third, but failed to complete his one long-range pass.
We all know Solanke loves to press, and he won six of his ten duels on the day — three on the ground and three in the air — proving how much of a nuisance he was to the Villa defence.
That’s more like it, Solanke
I was a little bit disappointed by Solanke’s performance against Man City, as I didn’t think he put himself about enough and wasn’t really taking the game by the scruff of the neck to create chances. His performance at Villa was totally the opposite, though, and was truly a perfect centre-forward display.
The goals are one thing, but his work rate, impressive pressing, and link-up play was simply phenomenal.
