'Charmed' to 'disgust’: Insider says some Trump campaign staffers have had enough
An Atlantic staff writer told MSNBC on Monday about a "strange phenomenon" he's noticed with newer staffers in the Trump campaign, describing their evolution from being "charmed" by the former president to their "exhaustion" — and even "disgust" — as the "honeymoon" falls away.
Speaking to MSNBC's Nicolle Wallace, Tim Alberta said it has been interesting to watch the psychology of Trump staffers and supporters over the past few years that he's written about the campaign.
Often, he said, a staffer will come into the mix without having been part of the Trump fold. What they experience is a kind of honeymoon period. They feel that behind the scenes, Trump is kind and nothing like what people make him out to be. When they hear attacks, they come to his defense.

"And they kind of take on this, you know, foxhole bunker mentality where the incoming is really constant," said Alberta.
While speaking to one staffer around the time audio emerged from retired Gen. John Kelly trashing Trump, a normally "cheerful" Trump staffer confessed to Alberta that they're not sure "how much longer they can put up with" it.
"And I said, 'Oh, you mean, like you don't want to go work in the administration?'" Alberta asked. "And he's like, 'I'm just not sure if I can even ride out this campaign.' There is a fatigue and exhaustion, and at times, I think it would be accurate to say a disgust for some of these people has set in."
Alberta said while he's not a psychiatrist, he often wonders why people devote so much of their lives to Trump.
