Sports briefs: Branson’s Liu misses NorCals by a stroke
Branson School senior Elizabeth Liu shot a 1-over par 73 at Fairfield’s Paradise Valley Golf Course on Monday to finish in the top 10 at the North Coast Section Division I tournament, but missed a berth in the CIF Northern California Championship by just one stroke.
At last season’s NCS D-I tournament at Berkeley’s Tilden Park, Liu shot a 73, good enough to advance to NorCals. She won the NorCal title to secure a spot in the state tournament.
The top three teams Monday advanced and top four individuals not on a qualifying team also advanced to NorCals. Alyssa Lim of James Logan (69), Irvington’s Elsa Hsieh (70), Athenian’s Xinyi Yuan (72) and Mission San Jose’s Michelle Woo (72) were the top four individuals.
Dougherty Valley (373) won the team title. Bishop O’Dowd (401), led by Hayley Fong’s 71, took second. Carondelet (407) placed third, paced by Lily Peng who had the day’s low score at 68.
Marin Catholic’s Lexi Ferguson fired an 81, while the Bulls’ Sidney Kawahara shot a 90.
Redwood tallied a fourth-place 426, with Taylor Bridges at 82 to lead the Giants, supported by Katelyn Van Dusen (84), Madeline Lim (86), Katherine Lim (87) and Chloe Branson (87).
San Marin (537) placed 18th, with Valentina Gudino (90), Samantha Low (101), Isa Kelly (111), Bella Knecht (116) and Rebecca Low (119).

The four seeded doubles teams all moved on as well, with No. 1 Jordan Marotto/Ella Povio of Redwood, No. 2 Audrey Gilmor/Paloma Vano-Rice of Branson, No. 3 Maria-Jose Stuart/Amalie Stoker of Tam, and No. 4 Georgia Compagno/Heidi Koch of MC all winning.
