U16s strong development run out before Cup QF
Linlithgow 38 – 14 Berwick
Saturday 2nd November
Report by Malcolm Dunn
Saturday saw a visit from our now long term friendly rivals Berwick who had made the early start to travel up to visit us. Sadly they were a little low on numbers so although a conference game it was played as a development game in 3 x 20 min blocks.
The opening 20 despite wet and greasy conditions saw some good handling from the Reds who opened the scoring though Callum D fresh off the plane from half term after a thundering run down the left wing.
Alex E then continued his strong scoring form to touch down a few minutes later as he proved a tough man to put down. Then a few minutes later the ball went through a number of phases before being moved wide to the right and Alfie stepped inside neatly to score our third.
The final word of the 20 though went to Berwick who got just reward for their efforts and a slight lapse in intensity allowed them to build territory and pressure and cross the line. End of the first third 17-7 to the Reds.
The second third saw the Reds dominant early on with Fraser powering over after a neatly taken penalty tap. Ali B then also made sure he continued his scoring streak with his trade mark pacey finish. At this point the Reds shuffled the pack and made a number of changes but there was still time for Alex to bag his second score leading to the end of the 2nd third with the score 38-7.
The final third was a fantastic contest with everyone in the squad getting good time on the pitch and a special mention to Aiden who came on and made several carries. It was though Berwick or should I say Scott in Berwick colours who had the last laugh with a scorching run down the left wing and dive or maybe more bellyflop under the posts. Final score 38-14 and a great morning all round.
This weeks man of the match as always was tough to call but for his energy levels, strong carrying and his try it goes to Callum D.
