Opelousas Police respond to disturbance during Creole Festival Parade
OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) - Two people are charged after gunshots rang out during the Creole Festival Parade in Opelousas on Sunday.
Officials say they responded to reports of a fight involving two large groups. As they got near the scene, gunshots were heard in the area. Upon officers’ arrival at the Valero gas station, located at 528 E. Landry Street, the groups involved had already dispersed into the crowd. No injuries were reported.
Police say officers did make one arrest at the scene. Mykel Thomas, 21, of Opelousas, was taken into custody on charges of Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Disturbing the Peace - Fighting. Additionally, Joel Raekwon Aggison, 25, also of Opelousas, was arrested and charged with Disturbing the Peace - Fighting.
The investigation into this incident remains active. The Opelousas Police Department is currently reviewing video surveillance and other evidence to identify further individuals involved. Additional arrests and charges are anticipated as the investigation proceeds.
