Archie Gray makes admission about his preferred Tottenham position
Tottenham youngster Archie Gray has given an interesting answer when asked what his favourite position is. The former Leeds man has already played across multiple positions for Spurs.
Archie Gray has shown his versatility
Just a few months into his Spurs career, Gray has already been used in midfield, left-back, centre-back and right-back by Ange Postecoglou.
The 18-year-old has played most often as a right-back, serving as Pedro Porro‘s main understudy so far this season.
The teenager did struggle defensively at times against Matheus Nunes in the first half of the Carabao Cup clash against Man City on Wednesday, but he gave a much better account of himself in the second period.

Gray has now insisted that he does not really mind playing in different positions at this stage of his career, pointing out that it will help him become a more complete footballer.
When asked if he would prefer to play in the middle of the park rather than at right-back, the former Leeds man said (via Football.London): “I’m just enjoying it and wherever I get put on the pitch I’ll just try to do my best. Every day in training wherever I am playing on the pitch I’ll just try and learn as much as I can because ultimately, I am an 18-year-old and it doesn’t matter where I play now.
“As long as I can learn loads of different roles then hopefully it will help me in the future. When you play different positions you understand that position. And especially when you go back into whichever position you prefer or wherever you play in a different game, you understand what you want from that position as well.
“Say I play central midfield in one game and have played right-back before, you understand what the right-back wants of you and also what the centre-back wants because you’ve played in those positions.
“It’s just really useful to understand what they want and where you need to be in those positions and I think it just helps my overall game and the understanding. Like I said, I’ll just keep learning those positions.”
Gray is learning a lot from two Spurs teammates
The youngster is unlikely to get too many opportunities as a number six this season, with Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma currently ahead of him in the pecking order.
Gray admitted that the Uruguayan and the Malian give him a lot of pointers in training and that he learns a lot from watching the two experienced men operate.
When asked about competing with Bissouma and Bentancur, the youngster said: “They’re two brilliant players and they’re so important for the team. Especially in training every day they both help me so much as I am a young player and they’ve seen a lot in football and played at the top of football.
“They’re helping me when I go in at No.6 in training and I’m in the same position as them. They just teach me little things like where to be on the pitch and things like that. It’s really useful and I’m grateful for them.”
