NFL Rumors: Another Head-Coaching Job Opens For Bill Belichick
The list of potential landing spots for Bill Belichick grew Monday morning.
The Saints fired head coach Dennis Allen following their seventh straight loss Sunday, according to multiple reports. New Orleans, which started the season 2-0 with blowout wins over the Panthers and the Cowboys, suffered a Week 9 loss to Carolina, which entered the weekend with only one victory on the campaign.
Allen was in his second stint with the Saints after previously working on the coaching staff from 2006 to 2010. He returned to New Orleans in 2015 and was promoted from defensive coordinator to head coach in 2022 following Sean Payton’s short-lived retirement. The Saints went 18-25 under Allen across two-plus seasons.
New Orleans fired Allen a little under a month after the New York Jets cut ties with Robert Saleh, who quickly landed a consulting role with the Green Bay Packers. It remains to be seen if the Saints and/or the Jets will have interest in Belichick, who reportedly wants to return to coaching after spending the 2024 season working in media.
The Big Easy might not be a particularly appealing landing spot for the future Hall of Fame head coach, but maybe he will look into it after being passed on by the NFC South rival Atlanta Falcons last offseason.
