MAGA disguises stashed by Dems as 'getaway costumes' in case Capitol attacked: report
Rep. Colin Allred (D-TX), who is running a surprisingly competitive race against incumbent Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), has recalled his efforts to protect other members of Congress when the U.S. Capitol Building was under attack on January 6, 2021.
Now, with the 2024 presidential election only a day away, Democrats who were inside the Capitol that day fear that similar violence will occur if Vice President Kamala Harris wins the election and former President Donald Trump refuses to accept the result.
According to NOTUS reporters Riley Rogerson and Matt Fuller, some Democrats in Congress are preparing for such violence by keeping an "insurrectionist getaway costume" on hand.

The costume includes "tactical pants" and "tactical boots," and the idea, Rogerson and Fuller report, is to disguise themselves as MAGA insurrectionists and a make a getaway if the Capitol is attacked again.
In an article published on Monday, Rogerson and Fuller wrote: "Professional liability insurance policies. 'Jokes' about acquiring passports from different countries in front of foreign officials. Even insurrectionist disguises stashed in congressional offices. Democratic lawmakers are preparing for another Donald Trump win — or another Trump loss — in all sorts of ways."
The reporters continue, "One Democratic member told NOTUS that he and about a half dozen other lawmakers had taken out legal insurance to pay for lawyers in case Trump tried to sue or arrest them. This member also said he had heard Democrats make jokes about getting another passport in front of foreign officials, in only a sort of joking kind of way."
According to Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-California), Democrats in Congress have been preparing for the worst.

Swalwell told NOTUS, "The safety of my family and my staff is my top priority. And I know that's the same for my colleagues. I know many who are preparing, just in case, for how they'll protect themselves, their families and their staff in a Trump presidency."
In response to Rogerson and Fuller's reporting, their NOTUS colleague Tara Golshan tweeted, "A Democratic lawmaker literally has a MAGA costume in their office in case there is another Jan. 6. Really incredible reporting from @riley_rogerson and @MEPFuller."
