Thruway maintenance worker hit and killed on I-90
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- A New York State Thruway Authority maintenance worker was hit and killed on I-90 in Chautauqua County Monday morning, New York State Police announced.
According to a preliminary investigation by police, a vehicle traveling westbound toward exit 58 in Hanover struck the worker, who was outside a Thruway Authority vehicle. Troopers responded to the scene at 8 a.m. and determined the collision to be fatal.
In a statement, Governor Kathy Hochul expressed her sympathies to the family, friends and co-workers of the victim.
"Roadside workers risk their lives every day to ensure the safety of all drivers on the road and they deserve our utmost attention at all times," she said. "This is the second fatality involving a Thruway maintenance worker this year and it is a serious reminder to slow down, safely move over and be alert for all vehicles stopped on the side of the road.”
I-90 West was closed for multiple hours due to the accident but reopened around 11:15 a.m.
