Blake Lively Revealed the One Poster She Had on Her Bedroom Growing Up & It’s Not of Her Famous Husband
If you’ve seen Romeo + Juliet, The Great Gatsby, or 2022’s Elvis, then you know Baz Luhrmann is one of the most talented and unique directors in the world. Just ask Blake Lively, his proud number-one fan.
After attending the 2024 LACMA Art+Film Gala on Nov. 2 in honor of Luhrmann, Lively gave the Oscar-nominated director a sweet tribute on Instagram.
“@bazluhrmann was the first & only signed poster I was ever lucky enough to have on my wall when I was a teenager,” Lively wrote alongside a series of pictures of her and Luhrmann during the star-studded gala. “It’s still on my wall today. To know him will always be surreal. He’s even more mischievous and magical in real life.”
Lively then gave fans a glimpse into what it’s like to be friends with such a creative genius. “He’ll grab your hand and run away from the gala with you to do an impromptu photoshoot because he’s inspired by everything, your cape and a palm tree [are] all he needs to see thrill,” Lively said. Indeed, a few photos from the slideshow seem to be Luhrmann taking pictures of Lively in her skin-bearing Tamara Ralph dress and billowing orange cape.
“He’ll enthusiastically play along when you ask to put your cape on him so you can take pictures of him in a pose that he has subliminally trademarked in every girl who grew up in the 90s mind,” she continued. “Baz™️ serves as not only your inspiration, your creativity, your possibility, and your unfiltered joy, but he’s the match & the lighter fluid to it. He’s happiest when you’re happiest. That applies to strangers, friends, colleagues. You can see it in his work because it’s WHO HE IS.”
“Congratulations my friend on your @lacma honors which of course extends to @catherinemartindesigns Baz’s partner is everything he does and is,” Lively continued, referring to Luhrmann’s wife and frequent collaborator, Catherine Martin. “They are inextricably linked in talent, kindness, significance and impact. CM is one of one.”
“What a night to be in the room with such talent, grace and art,” Lively added. “????♥️???? I will truly never forget it.”
This isn’t the first time Lively has given Luhrmann his flowers.
“I’m just gonna go out on a limb and say Baz is my favorite director,” Lively told Vogue earlier this year in August. “I just love Baz so much. Because he celebrates love. Nobody does love like that.”
At the time, Lively was directed by Luhrmann for the very first time for the photoshoot. According to Lively, the director was the only reason she accepted doing the cover story.
“I’m a very shy person, so I don’t like doing photo shoots, really,” she explained. “Because when I’m acting, I’m playing a character. And I don’t…I don’t feel super comfortable in front of a camera. I know it’s not something I’m supposed to say—I mean, this is I think the first cover I’ve done in four years.”
When Luhrmann signed up to direct, however, she quickly changed her mind. “But when they said Baz will do it, I thought, Okay, I’ve always wanted to work with Baz. Even if it’s just a week doing a photo shoot for Vogue, that’s still working with him,” she said. “Seeing through his lens and how he tells stories.” Looks like Lively is a true fangirl!
