Slash your fuel bill by 30% this winter using four easy hacks drivers ALWAYS forget – they’re cheap and take seconds
A FUEL expert has revealed how you could slash your bills at the pump by 30% using just four cheap and easy hacks.
Drivers could save themselves hundreds every year just by making some subtle changes to their driving style.
Howard Cox, founder of FairFuel UK, urged drivers to realise that “achieving the best possible fuel consumption rests firmly in their hands”.
While the type of car you own does make a difference to fuel economy, there are a few things you can do to save cash regardless of make and model.
Howard claimed: “Up to 30% lower fill-up costs can be achieved if common sense practical approaches are adhered to.”
First of all, he recommended staying on top of car maintenance to make it as efficient as possible.
Making sure that your tyre pressures are within the recommended window and keeping up with all your oil changes and so on is the best way to get your car running the best way it can.
Likewise, cleaning out your car regularly and removing roof racks when not needed helps you shed unnecessary weight and get the most out of your petrol.
Remove the boy racer from your psyche

Even what seems like minor clutter and dirty bodywork can increase drag and give you less for your money.
That gives you a good baseline to work from as your motor is already achieving the economy rating it’s advertised as having.
But that’s not to say you can’t squeeze some more mileage out of a tank with some tweaks to your driving habits.
Howard explained: “Remove the boy racer from your psyche.
“Don’t idle in traffic jams; switch off when stationery is in traffic.
“Brake and accelerate gently and keep the speed constant.
“When slowing down, remain in gear as long as possible.”
In a similar vein, he also urged drivers to plan their journeys in advance and use the least congested roads to avoid stop-start braking.
And if you do get stuck in traffic, make sure to keep an eye out for cars stopping up ahead to keep your driving smooth and avoid sudden stops.
Finally, Howard added: “Regarding the fuel, use the best and most reputable brands with widely available additives that lower emissions and improve consumption.
“Oh, don’t fill up your tank full, just enough for the journeys you need to complete.”
