U18s Report: Hibs 2 Queens Park 0
The wee Hibees continued their unbeaten start to the CAS Elite League with an impressive 2-0 victory over Queen’s Park on Friday evening.
Darren McGregor’s side have now gone nine games unbeaten in the league and sit top of the table with 21 points.
Jamie McMurdo scored a brace on the night against a stubborn Queen’s Park side who defended well considering they played the majority of the match with 10 men.
Connor Falls was sent off for the visitors on 20 minutes for a late challenge, and Hibs capitalised on their numerical advantage almost instantly.
Luke Davidson sent in a cross deep into the Queen’s Park penalty area – which was only half-cleared by the defender. The ball fell to Jamie McMurdo who had the whole goal to aim at and rifled the ball into the roof of the net to open the scoring.
McMurdo has his second and Hibs’ second of the game just before half-time. The forward timed his run perfectly into the penalty and met Logan Jimenez's cross with a powerful header which clipped the post on its way in.
McMurdo could’ve had a hat-trick on the hour mark when he took the ball down in the penalty area and fired past the Queen’s Park keeper, however, his shot was cleared off the line by a back-tracking defender.
Hibs goalkeeper Ryan Mallon did not have a save to make all game in what was a comfortable defensive display – keeping a deserved clean sheet and picking up another three points in the process.
Hibs U18s: Mallon, Whittaker, Jimenez, Gillie, McGrath, Bruce, Buckley, Cleland, McMurdo, Davidson, Macdonald.
