Real Madrid have wanted to sign Tottenham star for a long time
Real Madrid have been keeping their eye on one Tottenham star for a number of years. Despite recent reports, it isn’t Cristian Romero being linked this time around.
Real Madrid’s interest in Pedro Porro
Porro has arguably been the best right-back on show in the Premier League this season, with his performances thought to have brought him to the attention of Real Madrid.
Several outlets have reported over the last few weeks that the Spurs man is one of the right-backs on the radar of Los Blancos as they look for Dani Carvajal’s long-term successor (The Athletic).
Spanish outlet AS have now provided an update on the transfer saga and they reveal an interesting detail about Madrid’s interest in the 25-year-old.
Madrid are long-term admirers of Porro
AS point out that while Trent Alexander-Arnold remains the La Liga giants’ top target, Porro is considered a ‘serious alternative’ if a move for the Liverpool star does not materialise.
In fact, the outlet says that the Tottenham man has been on Real Madrid’s radar for some time, with the Spanish side even keeping an eye on the full-back’s progress when he was at Sporting Lisbon.
It is explained that for the moment, Madrid’s interest in Porro is ‘informal’ but if their efforts to land Alexander-Arnold do not prove fruitful, their pursuit of the Spurs man will ‘truly gain weight’.
Tottenham’s stance on Porro
The publication makes it clear, however, that the quest to get Porro out of Spurs will not be an easy one for Carlo Ancelotti’s men.
They say that the defender’s value has ‘grown substantially’ since Spurs signed him for €45m (£37.6m) nearly two years ago.
With the Spain international contracted to the North London side until 2028, it is suggested that Tottenham may demand a huge fee for him.
