‘It’s taken over Primark!’ angry shoppers yell as Disney character covers more than a few of store’s Christmas offerings
IT’S only just November, but the shops are full of Christmas products for eager shoppers to snap up.
But some customers who hit Primark for festive gifts were left fuming as they noticed a Disney character emblazoned on many of the offerings in the high-street store.
Products featuring the Disney character have been popping up in Primark for the past few years[/caption]The comments came after Primark shared a TikTok video of their response to it being November, writing: “Real footage of me on November 1st” over the top of the clip.
The video then showed a jiggling Christmas toy of Disney favourite Stitch in various parts of the store, including at the tills and on the escalator.
“It’s tiiiimmmmmeeee,” they captioned the video.
The Stitch in the video was wearing a Christmas tree style outfit, complete with a matching hat with a star at the very top.
As you press his hand, he starts moving from side to side and playing Christmas music.
While the toy has yet to appear on the Primark website, it’s believed to be around the £20 price mark.
Other Stitch festive offerings in Primark – shown in another TikTok video – include a £4 Christmas mug and plate set, a four pack of Stitch hair clips for £3.50 and even a variety of pet toys.
There’s also a Christmas jumper for Stitch-loving kids, coming in at £12.
“In a delightful pale pink hue, this cosy knit features a playful appliqué of Stitch holding a pressie and rocking Christmas-light adorned reindeer antlers – how cute!” Primark said of the top on their website.
“With Stitch leading the holiday cheer, your little one is sure to light up the season in style!”
But there were more than a few people in the comments section less than impressed with the sheer amount of Stitch products on offer.
“Stitch has now taken over Primark,” one wrote.
“For real,” another sighed.
“TBH I hate stitch so much – why’s Primark full of it?” a third questioned.
“No but like what is the hype about it,” someone else wondered.
As another fumed: “Stitch needs to be stopped!”
Why is Stitch so popular?
THE Lilo & Stitch movie that the extra-terrestrial, genetically-engineered blue character is from was released all the way back in 2002.
So why, 22 years later, has it had such a resurge in popularity?
There’s even an International Stitch Day (it’s on June 26th if you’re a fan!).
Toy expert Richard North, President at WOW! Stuff recently opened up about the factors that have ensured Stitch is as popular as ever two decades after the film’s release.
“Stitch has a distinct design and expressive nature that makes him enduringly appealing to children and teens of all ages, and we are currently seeing a huge resurgence in popularity,” he said.
“As well as this, Disney has continued to support and promote Lilo & Stitch through various channels, including a fashion resurgence which appeals to all age groups, theme park attractions, and appearances, keeping the cute, mischievous character front of mind.
“There is also a cycle of nostalgic interest and affection for Stitch, once children grow up, they want to introduce Stitch to their own children!”
But others vehemently disagreed, with one writing: “I love it and I keep buying it!”
“I love Stitch,” another agreed.
“I literally need it,” a third said.
“Not me planning a city trip with a Primark just to get this Stitch!” someone else commented.
“I need this Stitch in my life but it was out of stock so fast,” another wrote.
