I wanted to jazz up my bathroom so used BLACK grout instead of white – but cruel trolls insist it looks ‘horrendous’
A MAN who wanted to jazz up his bathroom to match the monochrome floor tiles has face backlash for using black grout.
In a video, he showed how he had used the grout between the white tiles, and how he finished off the look with black sealant too.
And predicting that the unusual choice would cause something of a stir, he added in the caption: “Should this be white sealant?
“What do you think of the black?”
The video was shared on TikTok, and the comments section was immediately filled with people weighing in, with many of them refusing to hold back with their opinions.
“Looks horrendous,” one raged.
“That’s crap,” another scowled.
“I wouldn’t want to use black. will show slightest error,” a third pointed out.
“Who tiled that, Stevie wonder?” someone else cruelly wrote.
While others insisted using black caulk and grout means you can’t see when mould grows around the bath, which could be incredibly dangerous.
“Can’t see mould on black,” one wrote.
“No can’t see if mould starts grow,” another added.
However, others were more complimentary about the finished look.
“Love the black sealant,” one wrote.
“Black is so much better – makes the tiles pop,” another praised the pro from South Coast Sealants LTD.
“Great job. Looks really clean,” a third commented.
“Whole lot looks class,” someone else said.
Using black grout and sealant is a trend that’s become more popular in recent years.

According to B&Q, who sell a vast range of black grouts, it “can be used to great effect when tiling bathrooms and kitchens”.
“Use in conjunction with black tiles to create a dark and luxurious tiled wall or use with light coloured tiles to have a contrasting colour combination,” they wrote on their website.
But one of the major downsides of using black grout is that it will fade quite dramatically over time.
“Grout is highly porous and will stain unless properly sealed,” the pros at GatherAus said.
“This is true of all grout colors (including lighter grout ).
“Even sealed grout, over time, won’t prevent ugly stains from reappearing in areas where it is exposed to more water exposure.”
You also have to be super careful about the cleaning products you use, as opting for a harsher one could leave you with white patches on your black grout.
