Dance-funk band fuels Jeepney Jazz on November 9
This is a press release from Filipinas Heritage Library.
Brass Pas Pas Pas Pas is set to perform hot danceable tunes at Jeepney Jazz next Saturday, November 9, from 8 to 10 pm at Ayala Museum in Makati City. Going strong for more than a decade, this collective of musicians is famous for pulling together disco-funk, soul, blues, jazz, swing, and contemporary groove music.
Filipinas Heritage Library presents Jeepney Jazz in partnership with Purefoods Deli to highlight Filipino contributions to global music. The OPM that Brass Pas Pas Pas Pas plays blasts away all the dust from the word “jazz.” With eleven instruments to get audiences grooving, its flair with horns draws fans like bees to wild honey.
The band’s hip-busting songs are both covers and original compositions. Its covers of Hotdogs hits are acclaimed for reinventing the Manila sound. In 2022, the band released the two albums Tayo Na’t Mag-Funk and Disko Na. “Yonip,” one of the band’s originals, is an unsentimental pep-talk about Filipino identity and love of country. Its most popular tunes are collected in the 2016 album Greatest Hits.
Filipinas Heritage Library on Ayala Museum’s sixth floor is managed by Ayala Foundation under its Arts and Culture Division. This digital research hub stokes interest in all things Filipino in print, audio, and visual materials. Along with core holdings on World War II, the library gives visitors onsite access to popular and traditional music.
The Brass Pas Pas Pas Pas concert is the first of three in Jeepney Jazz. On November 9, Brass Munkeys is scheduled to play, and on December 7, Project Yazz. Both bands are made up of young lions celebrated in the jazz world. Tickets include cocktails and canapes.
Francis de Veyra, the leader of the band, is a multi-awarded musical director and composer of movie soundtracks. Among his many awards are Best Music for “The Arrival” from the 2010 Gawad Urian; and Best Music for “Tribe” in 2008 also from Gawad Urian.
Bras Pas Pas Pas Pas is all the rage in festival circuits. It has performed at the Fête de la Musique presented by Alliance Francaise de Manille, and at many independence-day concerts organized by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.
Jeepney Jazz promises a funk vibe for adventurous Gen Z listeners and jazz afficionados eager to hear something edgy and fresh. Blast away the rainy blues with Brass Pas Pas Pas Pas grooves!
