New features coming to your Ring doorbell in HOURS – and they are a big boost to video
RING is making a number of changes to its subscription plans in a matter of days.
The Amazon-owned firm has introduced a brand new premium tier as part of the shake-up.
There’s a new Premium Ring subscription available[/caption]Fortunately, prices for the existing two tiers are remaining the same.
But they are both receiving new names and some new features you ought to familiarise yourself with.
Ring Protect Basic becomes Ring Home Basic and will stay the cheapest option at £4.99 a month.
It will continue to cover just one device and stores up to 180 days of video event history.
But users will get something new called Video Preview Alerts.
This shows a short clip in the push notification, meaning Ring owners can instantly see what triggered a motion alert without even needing to open the app.
Meanwhile, Ring Protect Plus transforms into Ring Home Standard and will stay at £7.99 a month.
It will now come with an extended live view, allowing you to watch your camera feed live for up to 30 minutes at a time.
Finally, the new Ring Home Premium tier costs £15.99.
The plan covers all the Ring devices in your home and 24/7 recording for the first time.
Footage is saved for a maximum of 14 days giving you time to check and download any you wish to keep.
But 24/7 recording will only available on the following models:
- Ring Stick Up Cam
- Stick Up Cam Pro
- Indoor Camera (2nd Gen)
- Pan-Tilt Indoor Camera
Ring doorbell owners don’t have to subscribe of course – you can still use it for free to accept calls from their front door in real-time and watch a live stream.
The changes start from Tuesday (November 5).

Video storage is the main feature that people subscribe to services like Ring for.
However, there are some alternative brands around that allow you to do just that at no extra cost.
Instead of storing them in the cloud you can store them on a local hard drive at no extra cost.
