Prep football: Road win eludes San Rafael
Victory slipped away from San Rafael as host Stone Ridge Christian rallied for the winning score in the fourth quarter to edge the Bulldogs, 10-9, in Merced during a non-league contest on Friday.
San Rafael quarterback Lachlan Royston completed just 16 of 42 passes with an interception, but racked up 218 yards and a touchdown. Senior Torin Pilla accounted for all of the Bulldogs’ scoring with a 27-yard field goal in the second quarter and touchdown reception in the third quarter for a 9-3 lead.
Bulldogs senior Dante Canziani caught five passes for 71 yards, including a 40-yard reception. Senior Haden Berlinsky caught four passes for 62 yards.
San Rafael (5-4) managed just 23 yards on the ground, led by Josue Munoz, who ran seven times for 19 yards.
San Rafael’s defense held Stone Ridge to just three points through three quarters. Senior Jayro Escamilla had two sacks and three tackles. Senior CJ Harter had four tackles and one of six San Rafael sacks.
The Bulldogs wrap up the regular season on Friday against Terra Linda in the annual Bell Game.
