Orchard Park man gets probation for stealing $100k in cash and jewels from employer
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- A former employee for a local jewelry business was sentenced to probation Friday for stealing $100,000 worth of money and inventory from his employer, the Erie County District Attorney's Office announced.
Along with five years of probation, 38-year-old Jason Badagliacca of Orchard Park also agreed to pay $93,000 in restitution to the victim's insurance provider and has already paid back $7,000.
Badagliacca stole $100,000 in cash and merchandise from his employer between Sept. 14, 2021 and Aug. 9, 2022 while working as an inventory manager at a jewelry store. Officials said Badagliacca would steal precious stones and jewelry and sell them on the side.
He would also pocket cash from financed purchases. An audit uncovered the theft after he attempted to hide it by manipulating business records.
Badagliacca pleaded guilty to second-degree grand larceny in May.
