Russian FM: Strategic partnership agreement with Iran to be signed soon
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has announced that Russia will soon sign a comprehensive agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran, covering defense and peace.
According to Russia’s TASS news agency on Thursday, October 31, the agreement aims to strengthen ties between Tehran and Moscow.
Lavrov emphasized that this agreement has the potential to contribute to regional and global peace and security.
Reports indicate that the proposal for this agreement was initiated by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Russian President Vladimir Putin also mentioned, during a meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan on October 23, that the agreement would be finalized soon.
Kazem Jalali, Iran’s ambassador to Moscow, confirmed that the agreement will be signed during Pezeshkian’s visit to Russia.
This agreement between Russia and Iran comes amid increasing regional tensions, with both nations seeking alliances to counterbalance Western influence. Such collaborations may escalate regional dynamics, particularly given their opposition to Western policies.
This comes amid the Middle East is witnessing an escalation of retaliatory strikes, with both Iran and Israel engaging in tit-for-tat attacks.
The involvement of regional and global powers in these conflicts risks further destabilizing the region, complicating efforts for peace and security.
