Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have not confirmed the rumors that they’ve purchased a vacation home in Portugal, but Princess Eugenie is reportedly feeling the heat around her friendship with the royal couple. The alleged property is a part of the CostaTerra Golf and Ocean Club where Eugenie’s husband, Jack Brooksbank, works in marketing and sales for Discovery Land Company, the developer building the luxurious residences.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex desired a European home base after being evicted from Frogmore Cottage in 2023 and it seems like Harry’s cousin helped them out. Still, that might have presented a problem with the royal family because yes, the feud is still brewing.
“[Eugenie] feels strongly they’re doing the right thing, but there’s no denying it’s stirring up trouble for them,” a source claimed to In Touch Weekly. “Fact is, this is being seen as them taking the Sussexes’ side and it’s not sitting well with a lot of people in the Firm, particularly Camilla and William, who are convinced Meghan and Harry are still using Eugenie to get intel on the rest of the family.”
Prince Andrew’s youngest daughter is “being strongly advised to rethink this decision,” because the palace reportedly does not want them to be “Team Sussex.” The big fear from King Charles III is that Harry and Meghan will recruit Eugenie for what the Daily Mail described as “quasi-royal” tours. The “rival royals” narrative seems to be a palace-driven issue after the stateside couple successfully traveled to Colombia and Nigeria as a part of their Invictus Games and Archewell Foundation missions. Charles’ visit to Australia paled in comparison to the Sussexes’ trips and that’s what likely worries the royal family.
The palace refuses to let down their guard even though Harry and Meghan have made it clear that their royal-family-exposing days are behind them. Even Prince Harry’s paperback version of Spare did not include the traditional chapter update. His story stands firm in the hardcover edition and the Sussexes are moving on — and it looks like Princess Eugenie and her husband are standing firmly in their corner.
