Award-winning campsite just for adults named one of the best in the UK – with peaceful lakeside lodges
A PRETTY English campsite right on a lake has been named one of the best in the UK.
Fields End Water Caravan Park in Cambridgeshire is an adults-only site with both lodges and caravans.

It’s not just them raving about the caravan park, it was named AA Campsite of the Year too.
The family-run caravan park is located in a remote area, away from major roads and flight paths.
There are touring pitches on-site as well as lakeside glamping pods and lodges.
The caravan park’s main site has 34 fully serviced pitches, including 24 that are hard-standing with enough space for awnings.
Its luxury, dog-friendly, glamping pods are located right next to a fishing lake.
There are also six luxury lodges on-site – and just like the glamping pods they’re dog-friendly.
Each of the lodges comes equipped with a private hot tub and three of them have a private garden.
Apart from being an adults-only site, the site’s main draw is its three fishing lakes.
According to its website, the three fishing lakes have 70 swims (a location where a person fishes) with a wide range of fish like Carp, Chubb, Barbel, Crucian and Perch.
The Pit has 24 swims around its outside and has a neighbouring on-site bait shop too.
There’s also the Pool, with 28 swims, and the Waterside, which is kept private for guests.
Other facilities include an on-site shop (open from April until October) that stocks everyday groceries like milk, eggs, bread and logs.
The campsite has a 4.5/5 star rating on TripAdvisor from over 900 reviews, with one person writing: “We had a wonderful time at Fields End Water campsite, the staff were friendly and the park is pristine.”
Another person added: “We stayed in a pod, which was practical and warm. We could not fault it”.
The campsite is open throughout November, with low season prices from £25 per night.
The site will be closed to visitors in December, January and February, with the caravan park reopening in March.
Fields End Water is a 70-minute drive from Cambridge, and it’s a 40-minute drive from Peterborough.
Award-winning caravan parks
There are plenty of other award-winning caravan parks to visit in the UK, including Beech Croft Farm Caravan Park in Buxton, Derbyshire.
Beech Croft Farm Caravan Park was one of the winners of Visit England‘s ROSE Awards, where hotels, holiday parks and self-catering accommodation are celebrated for their friendliness.
The family-run caravan park and camping site is located between Buxton and Bakewell, placing it in an ideal location to explore the Peak District.
It is owned by John, Julie and Jodie Gregory, who live just one minute away from the site.
There are a wide range of facilities available to suit the whole family, including two separate children’s play areas, a ball game area with a zip wire and climbing frame for over 7s.
Guests’ dogs can stretch their legs in their enclosed field, and there’s a smart toilet and shower block split into ladies, gents and unisex, with disabled facilities, a washing up room, and underfloor heating for winter.
Three camping tips from an expert
David Scotland owns camping equipment retailer Outdoor World Direct and knows all about how to make a camping trip run smoothly.
When visiting any campsite this summer it’s important to make sure you’re not making simple mistakes that could ruin your holiday.
Check your tent
David recommends putting your tent up a couple of weeks before you’re due to travel to give you enough time to repair or replace any damaged parts.
He told Sun Online Travel: “You’d be surprised how many people turn up with broken tents.”
Test the ground
Picking a good spot to pitch your tent is difficult, with lots of things to consider.
One of those should be the condition of the ground you’re putting your tent on top of, according to David.
He said: “Once you’ve found the perfect spot, test the ground with your pegs before you commit to camping there to make sure the ground is soft enough.”
Don’t nap in your tent
It may seem the perfect place for it, but a nap in a tent could end badly, if it’s done at the wrong time of the day.
David explained: “If the sun’s shining and it’s hot inside your tent – don’t do it!
“One of our friends nodded off in his tent during a heatwave at Glastonbury and ended up at the medical tent with heatstroke.”
Instead, he recommends finding some shade outside or somewhere well ventilated.
