Man detained by Columbus police arrested for fatal shooting near Kroger
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – A man who was detained by police Friday has been charged with the murder of a man who was gunned down near a Kroger in the University District.
According to Columbus police, officers arrested 34-year-old DeShawn Caldwell for the murder of Paul Allgood, who was shot and killed on Oct. 26 just after 2:30 p.m.
Allgood, 51, was found suffering from a gunshot wound in the 1300 block of North High Street, near the Kroger supermarket. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition and pronounced dead nearly two hours later.
Caldwell was named a suspect in the shooting the following day and on Friday he was arrested being detained during an unrelated incident. Officers then connected him to the alleged involvement in Allgood’s death, which reportedly occurred after the two men were involved in a dispute.
Court documents state that Caldwell, who is being held in Franklin County Jail, will appear in municipal court for an arraignment hearing Saturday morning.
