No. 11 Westlake looks to stay perfect in district play vs. Del Valle
AUSTIN (KXAN) — No. 11 Westlake and Del Valle are headed in different directions this season.
The Chaparrals, winners of five consecutive games including last week's Battle of the Lakes rivalry with No. 16 Lake Travis, host the Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. Friday in a District 26-6A matchup. Since beating Leander 29-17 on Sept. 13, Del Valle has lost five consecutive games and is winless in district play. The Cardinals lost to Dripping Springs last week 49-17.
Defense was the answer for the Chaps against the Cavaliers last week in a 28-16 win. Westlake picked off Lake Travis' Chaston Ditta three times, returning one for a touchdown, and they held Van Hopping to more than 50 yards below his season rushing average and kept him from scoring.
Del Valle allowed Dripping Springs to gain 390 yards of total offense while Tigers quarterback Maddox Maher completed passes to eight different receivers. Michael Dent had 10 tackles for the Cardinals in the loss.
The game is available in the video player above and on KXAN.com/Westlake for those in the Austin viewing area. For viewing outside of the area, the game is available via subscription on the NFHS Network.
